What fish tank is best for pet crayfish? The answer depends on several factors. Are you looking to keep other fish company with your pet crabfish? Are you planning to have another pet crayfish? If so, a 10-gallon fish tank or desktop aquarium is not the best option. This is what I have learned from personal experience. A 20-gallon fish tank would be ideal for one Crayfish.

Crayfish Can Be Very Dirty

Crayfish can be dirty little creatures. Crayfish produce a lot of waste. This waste can cause your tank to be soiled and potentially toxic for other fish if it is present. A larger tank, such as a 20-gallon fish tank, will have more water to handle all the pet crayfish waste.

Crayfish can be territorially aggressive.

Crayfish can eat and fight any food. They can be very territorial and aggressive. Even so, if you intend to have other fish in your tank, you will need a tank large enough for them all. A bigger tank will lower the chance of your pet crayfish eating your other fish. They will have more space to swim. Your pet crayfish will also have more freedom to swim. Remember, though, that Crayfish can eat any fish in the tank. I do not recommend putting aggressive fish into the tank. Redtail Sharks, mollies, and hatchets can all be good companions for pet crayfish. They did for me in the previous.

Water Changes

It will be easier to manage water changes for your Crayfish and other fish if you have a larger 20-gallon tank. You should change approximately 25% of your water every week. This will keep your tank clean and healthy. It will also help your other fish stay healthy.

You can get two Crayfish.

You can get two Crayfish if you want and place them in one tank. It’s only a matter of time before one of them eats the other, according to my experience. Two Crayfish will require a tank that is larger than 20 gallons. If you need to keep two Crayfish, ensure you have separate hiding places for them. These can be purchased online, made from PVC, or bought at most pet shops that sell aquariums.
